05 CELTIC MANOR GOLF RESORT An overwhelming desire amongst those behind the design of the Ryder Cup course was to develop 18 holes that would provide a supreme challenge to the world’s best golfers in match play conditions. This wish manifests itself in the extensive use of water features that have been designed to present players with classic match dilemmas. Long-driving players are offered the opportunity to chance their arms over long carries of water but those that do so will be spurning the safety-first approach and will do so at their own risk. The new course will be a par 71 and will measure 7,493 yards in length. It features nine brand new holes (1st – 5th and 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th) that have been developed along the floor of the Usk Valley, as well as nine holes from the former Wentwood Hills Championship Course that have been extensively remodelled (6th – 13th). The course features no fewer than six signature holes (the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 14th, 15th and 18th), each of which features a notable water hazard. The course has been designed by European Golf Design (EGD) under the guidance of its head designer, Ross McMurray who enjoyed regular consultations with Robert Trent Jones Jr, the architect of the original Wentwood Hills course that hosted The Celtic Manor Wales Open on five occasions between 2000 and 2004. Designed by Simon Gidman, the par 73 course is set in 170 undulating acres of what was once an extensive woodland. History tells us that some 480 years ago, no less a person than Henry VIII used to enjoy his sporting afternoons here, hunting deer and wild boar. Two loops of nine holes play in opposite directions around a 30 acre wood, which lies at the centre of the course. £3.600 donated for the captain charity 2009.Testing natural hazards come courtesy of 13 lakes, some impressive ground vegetation and a richness of fine, mature trees, most of which are specimen oaks. 32 BRAY GOLF CLUB - Supported by LA CALA GOLF RESORT & ELBA HOTEL Costa Ballena The foundation of Bray Golf Club at Ravenswell in July, 1897 coincided with a boom in golf development at the end of the 19th century, when a group of local gentlemen persuaded the Rt. Honourable Lord Plunkett to act as President and "spared no pains in arousing the inhabitants of Bray and surrounding district". Within two years the Club could boast of a membership of 325, which was a tremendous response for the new venture. The historic victory of Bray Golf Club in the inaugural Barton Cup competition in 1905 will always stand out as a major first in Irish golf. In the intervening years the Club has continued to enjoy success on the representative playing field while on the individual front the achievements of Walker Cup player, Keith Nolan, brought success to the Club. The membership of Bray Golf Club remained relatively small in modern terms during it’s long residency at Ravenswell Road. Since the Club moved to it’s new 18 hole course and clubhouse in 2003 the membership has flourished. The integration of the many new members has lead to an even stronger and more vibrant Club. With the influx of new members and the recent introduction of a Junior Development Plan, the future of Bray Golf Club looks very bright. The new 18 hole course is a magnificent USGA-standard parkland course, set in nearly 200 acres, between Bray Head and the Sugar Loaf Mountain with magnificent views of Killarney Bay and the Wicklow. “Spectacular in every aspect” is a phrase very appropriate to Bray Golf Club as stunning scenery frames the golf course and adds to the golfers enjoyment of the course. Entertainer Keith O'Keefe was a genial host once again keeping a large gallery constantly amused as they followed him round the Ferndown course. Voice of Golf Peter Alliss, the patron of the event, was out and about in his buggy on the course in a roving commentator style with a quip or two for the gathered spectators. Tournament secretary Sue Helliker said: "We think it will be our most successful year in terms of the money we've raised over £71.000. "We had crowds of about 2,000 through the gates and it was a fantastic day."

This event has gone from strength to strength over the years and is now certainly one of the most popular events in the Devon golfing calendar. We will have 28 teams competing in an individual and team Stableford competition. We have a great deal of support from local and national companies who return each year. It is a very social day with many teams staying at Woodbury Park and then joining us for breakfast, the tournament, and then the prize presentation with dinner and cabaret. Our reputation for supplying a quality day for individuals and companies means our event is always over subscribed. £12,000 has been raised for these charity over the day.

As our name suggests, woods play an important part in the topography of the course. Designed by Simon Gidman, the par 73 course is set in 170 undulating acres of what was once an extensive woodland. History tells us that some 480 years ago, no less a person than Henry VIII used to enjoy his sporting afternoons here, hunting deer and wild boar. Two loops of nine holes play in opposite directions around a 30 acre wood, which lies at the centre of the course. £5.600 donated for the UCARE charity Golf Day 2009.Testing natural hazards come courtesy of 13 lakes, some impressive ground vegetation and a richness of fine, mature trees, most of which are specimen oaks Winner: Andy Dewhurst & Tim Henman Team.

43 Stoke Park GOLF LIVE 2010 - Will be an event with 15.000 Golfers which all will pay to get in, so it is an interesting public to get to with marketing and promotional material from Andalucia. Our golf course, known as Stoke Poges, was designed by Harry Shapland Colt. It was opened in July 1908 and received immediate acclaim:- “If there were no palatial mansion and no beautiful gardens and grounds, the course itself would take a great deal of beating anywhere within thirty miles of London. Colt, to

whom belongs the credit of designing it, has scored a great success and his reputation as a green architect, already high, will be greatly enhanced by this the latest of his works.” (Golf Illustrated, 1909). The course has stood the test of time: “Longevity and history do not necessarily make for a great golf course but in the case of Stoke Poges it becomes immediately apparent why this layout has withstood the considerable test of time. It got off to a good start when the original landlord called on Colt to offer his services as a designer.... it does have Colt’s finest single hole (the seventh), a short par three upon which the notorious twelfth at Augusta was modelled.” (Today’s Golfer, 1992). The exceptionally high quality of the greens, which have been consistently maintained, are a particular feature of the course. In November 2005 Golf World chose the course within the “Top 100 Courses in the World”, however, Stoke Park is about more than just a great course, with the traditions, events, competitions and atmosphere created over 100 years in the true sense of the word. Reciprocal agreements also enable you to play at many leading clubs, both in this country and around the world.
