1- THE LONDON GOLF CLUB  Back  (Sponsored by HOTEL ANTEQUERA GOLF)

The Andalucia Golf Challenge held its first tournament of 2006 at the LONDON GOLF Club on the 30th March.  A fantastic golf club in Kent, with two spectacular golf courses, The International Course and The Heritage Course designed by Jack Nicklaus.   

Some 80 players competed on a day which gave very difficult conditions with strong winds and showers. 

1st Steve and Dan Hourihan with 40 points, 2nd Tommy Carr - James Bidmead with   40 Points

 

2- ASTON WOOD GOLF CLUB Back (Sponsored by LA FUENTE DEL SOL and ANTEQUERA GOLF )

A super competition day. This was the opening Golf Tournament for the Andalucia Golf Challenge with over 150 players.  All of whom enjoyed Paella, Spanish wine and Flamenco dancing. The golf club director Ken Heathcote and their members could not have any more enthusiasm over this Spanish theme golf day. Rafael Cremades (Spanish TV Presenter) was there to present his beautiful wife, flamenco dancer Pilar Astola both from Sevilla with a poem by Pablo Neruda.  The Real Andalucia was in Aston Wood Golf Club, Birmingham.

Winner: DAVID NUTT (41 Points). Runner up: LEE JACKS  (36pts Runner Up, better back nine)

3- STOVER GOLF CLUB Back (Sponsored by VALLE DEL ESTE HOTEL, GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB)

A fantastic day in sunny Devon, the competition was attended by 150 players playing in teams of three balls. The golf course was in very good condition, with superb organization this proved to be a really successful day. After the players finished their round, they attended the prize giving at 7 PM in the Clubhouse.

 4- THE PLAYERS GOLF CLUB Back (Sponsored by BARCELO LA ENVIA GOLF, 2 prizes Team event)

This competition was held over 4 days with prizes every day for the winning team and a final prize for the winners over the 4 days event. This is a new 18 hole championship course situated just one mile from junction 18 of the M4. Opened in May 2002, one of the striking features is its maturity with woodland, lakes, trees and gorse coming into play. At over 7,600 yards, it's the longest course in the United Kingdom but from the front markers dips below 6,000 yards.  Six sets of tees will ensure that whatever your handicap, you will enjoy your round.

THE BREAKTHROUGH CHARITY GOLF DAY. The competition commenced with a shotgun start at 12:30, 27 teams took part in this event and the weather was a fantastic host for the day. The golf club director Ken Heathcote and their staff could not have any more enthusiasm over this very well organized golf day. Over 150 people attended the gala dinner during the evening. The winners were delighted with the fantastic prizes and look forward to visiting Andalucía. Much interest was also gained from many others wishing to visit Andalucía some time in the near future.

10- CLEVEDON GOLF CLUB Back (Sponsored by CONFORTEL Hotels and LAURO GOLF)

The Par 72 course is both challenging and interesting at 6557 yds with a standard scratch of 72, it will prove challenging for all standards of golfers. 150 players took part in the Andalucia Golf Challenge. A beautiful Spanish whether over this magnificent golf course during the day.

The front nine offers spectacular views and scenery as the course stretches along the Severn estuary then down into the valley. The back nine brings you into our new land and 5 holes which includes our 572 par 5 and not for the faint-hearted. As you leave the new land you prepare yourself for the Clevedon signature hole. The Castle tee stands over 200ft above the fairway with views all over Clevedon and out into the estuary with Flat Holm, Steep Holm and the Welsh coastline stretching before you. This is one hole we guarantee you will never forget.

A fantastic golf day in London, Andalucia brought the sunny whether with a fantastic winning prize for the golf tournament today.  The competition was attended for more than 14 teams. The golf course was in very good condition, the greens are excellent. A many bunkered parkland course with easy walking. 6410 yards, par 72, SSS 70, the course record is 64, about 700 members and 112 years old golf course. Beautiful.

The Golf and Country Club is situated at the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, yet is only a short drive from the M40 and M42 motorways, and just 15 minutes from Birmingham International Airport and the National Exhibition Centre. Opened in 1994, the golf course has matured well, and has recently undergone significant improvements with the addition of new tees and water features. The par 73 course can be played at varying lengths up to the full championship measurement of approximately 6900 yards, and is complemented by a par 3 academy course, that is popular with beginners and juniors. Set in over 165 acres of peaceful Hampshire countryside, Dummer Golf Club offers its golfers exceptional playing and practice facilities. The Park is the perfect setting for two outstanding golf courses and is located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Park stretches over 240 acres of historic parkland, which includes trees that are over 400 years old. Both courses, The Crown and The Cromwell have their own distinctive character and are recognized as two of the finest in the South West. For sure the winner today can go and dry out in Andalucia. 22- FRILFORD HEATH GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by HOTEL ANTEQUERA GOLF)

Frilford Heath is one of a select number of courses to boast 54 holes of championship golf, providing an excellent mix of traditional and modern design. The courses are designed in classic golfing country with two of the three courses offering a heath land characteristic, and the third course, opened in 1994, has a ‘links’ appearance in many parts and is an excellent test of golf. The sandy subsoil ensures the courses are rarely affected by heavy rainfall, a great incentive for corporate golf days and other visitors to the club. Situated near the ‘Dreaming Spires’ of Oxford and the Cotswolds, the club is easily accessible, being in close proximity to the M40, M4 and A34. It was a beautiful day for the Andalucia Golf Challenge. Super courses and in fantastic conditions.

The Dorset Golf & Country Club hosts 27 holes of the most challenging golf in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England. The Martin Hawtree designed; Lakeland/Parkland and Woodland courses are built to full USGA specification and are extremely well maintained, presenting excellent playing conditions for all levels of golfers. The Championship Lakeland/Parkland Course, Par 72, provides a great golfing experience with beautifully sculptured greens, surrounded by cleverly placed bunkers. The course also boasts some of the most picturesque lakes and waterways you could find on any course. The Woodland Course, Par 33, offers a contrasting challenge to our main course with tight tree lined fairways, which have been carved through a forest of rhododendrons. Any combination of the Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland can be combined to create an exciting and different 18 holes each time you play.

As our name suggests, woods play an important part in the topography of the course. Designed by Simon Gidman, the par 73 course is set in 170 undulating acres of what was once an extensive woodland. History tells us that some 480 years ago, no less a person than Henry VIII used to enjoy his sporting afternoons here, hunting deer and wild boar. Two loops of nine holes play in opposite directions around a 30 acre wood, which lies at the centre of the course. Testing natural hazards come courtesy of 13 lakes, some impressive ground vegetation and a richness of fine, mature trees, most of which are specimen oaks.

29- ENMORE PARK GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by HOTELES MEXICO - VERA - ALMERÍA and Valle del Este Golf Course)

One of the oldest courses in the Somerset region can be found at Enmore Park Golf Club which was designed by Hawtree and Son in the early 1900s and first opened for the enjoyment of golfers all across the Somerset region in 1906. It offers a fine and stern test of ability to all levels, ages and handicaps of golfer, and benefits from an outstanding location in the heart of the Somerset region, where there are excellent panoramic view to be enjoyed from most vantage points on the course. The winners on the day were David Bernard, Matthew Bernard, Andy Burgess and Chris Bishop.

31- THE OXFORSHIRE GOL CLUB Back (Invitation to the O. G. C. Charity day HOSTED BY MICHAEL PARKINSON CBE). The Oxfordshire, set in the rolling hills of the Chilterns, is located approximately 45 minutes drive northwest of London on the outskirts of the historical university town of Oxford. Designed and built by the world-renowned architect Rees Jones, his first in Britain. No expense has been spared in creating this beautiful course. A tactical blend of bunkering, strategically placed lakes, wispy rough and wind make this a real challenge. Combine that with its natural beauty and you have all the course you'll ever need.


 

32- YEOVIL GOLF CLUB  ( Back (Sponsored by LA FUENTE DEL SOL and ANTEQUERA GOLF ).

Set in beautiful Dorset countryside on the eastern edge of town on the main A30, Yeovil Golf Club offers spectacular views with superb 18 and 9 hole golf courses. Both courses are superbly presented and provide a golfing challenge and individual character. For those not so proficient the courses do nothing to discourage the beginner. The Andalucia Golf Challenge was played for over 150 people, finishing with a wonderful evening.

34- STOVER GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by LA FUENTE DEL SOL and ANTEQUERA GOLF ).

The format was a Team stableford 2 scores to count [ teams of three] alongside an individual stableford.

The overall winner of the individual was Pauline Krombas with 39 points and the team competition was Marion Down, Trish Chattee and Cherry James with 80 team points. The prizes were awarded by Mark Tyler a Westcountry Television Personality.

CORPORATE GOLF DAY The competition commenced at 1:30, 12 teams took part in this event and the weather was a fantastic host for the day. The golf club director Ken Heathcote and their staff could not have any more enthusiasm over this very well organized golf day. Over 90 people attended the gala dinner during the evening. Winner: Jim Duff.

37- ST MELLONS GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by LA CALA GOLF RESORT ). First opened in 1936, St Mellons is a lovely parkland course on the eastern edge of the bustling Capital city of Cardiff. It is unique in that it straddles two counties - Gwent and South Glamorgan - but because the Clubhouse is in Gwent it is to that Union that the Club belongs. The course is laid out in the shape of a clover leaf and provides one of the best tests of golf in South Wales. Since the course was opened some of the worlds finest players have played it including Lyle; Barnes; Torrance; James; Darcy and Antonio Garrido. Indeed, Garrido held the touring Professionals course record for many years. In recent years the test provided by the course has led to St Mellons providing several Welsh Internationals. WINNER: Carl Selwood

38- EAST BERKSHIRE GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by GRAN HOTEL ELBA ). The Course stands on the North Downs near the western end of that glorious belt of pine and heather country that was once the Forest of Windsor. The Club House is a quarter of a mile from Crowthorne Station, on the Southern line from Waterloo. By road the best route is through Staines, Sunningdale and Camberley to York Town, there turning right into the Reading road past Sandhurst to Crowthorne. An ancient Roman road, known to later superstition as the Devil's Highway, traverses the southern edge of the course, but little signs of it remain, and the visitors attention is more likely to be caught by the beauty of the surroundings, the brilliant orange of the gorse in spring time standing out against the dark green of the firs, or in autumn the rich purple of the heather contrasting with the varied tints of the magnificent old oaks and beeches. 39- WENTWORTH GOLF CLUB  Back (Sponsored by ALMENARA HOTEL - CADIZ AND VALDERRAMA ). Three 18-hole Championship standard courses and one 9-hole course of Surrey heathland surrounded by woodland of pine, oak and birch. Situated just three miles from the City centre and the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge; Long Ashton is one of the area's premier golf courses. Temple is a beautiful old course set on the edge of the Chilterns with stunning views across the Thames Valley. The course was designed by the 1887 and 1889 Open Champion Willie Park Junior as an inland links course and to this day the spirit of his course is maintained. Since its founding in 1909, the Club has been a private members club, which is always delighted to extend a very warm welcome to visitors.
